Dr.(Fr).Conrad Pesso, S.J.

Chairperson’s Desk

XIMR, Mumbai has been established with a mission to develop global entrepreneurial leaders with Character, Competence, and Commitment. XIMR has always placed values and ethics as the core component of credible Management Education which includes several value added courses such as International Relations, Spanish, Comparative Religion, Philosophy, International Management, Business Leadership, Grooming and Etiquette, Cross Cultural Management, etc.

Our deep commitment to management education, balanced with social responsibility ensures that students understand first hand the problems faced by a vast majority of our population. This is true of virtually all emerging markets. Through case studies, simulations, research projects, immersion studies, mentoring programmes, exchange programmes, etc., our students are encouraged to develop a sensitivity which will enable them to provide value to those at the Bottom of the Pyramid.

Our committed faculty team provides an intense learning experience which continues to lay the foundation for application and employability skills in the practical scenario of the business world. In January 2011, we inaugurated the ‘Centre for Africa Studies’ at XIMR, in association with Makerere University Business School, East Africa. This centre aims to be an apex body of culture, x academics and research that will lead to courses encouraging better understanding/appreciation of the emerging regions of the African market scenario for students and Indian businesses.

Our executive placements and summer internships are all in well known, credible companies. Fifteen of our students will go to E. Africa for an exchange programme this summer. I welcome you to XIMR, as we encourage you on a journey of sustainable Management Education with innovation and excellence.

Director’s Desk

Global trade historically has led to progress and growth for countries open to trade. This has been borne in the writings of Tunisian Scholar Ibn Khaldun whose observations on trade pre-date Adam Smith by 400 years. Countries that withdrew from trade (China, Japan) suffered centuries of decline.

Today, the world is again buffeted by headwinds of protectionism, driven by factors like huge income inequality, anti-immigration sentiments, Islamic extremism etc. However, if history is any guide, world trade will again grow as it is imperative to the ability of countries to grow and innovate.

India has taken steps to better compete globally with its ranking in World Competitiveness rising from Rank 55(2015-16) to Rank 39(2016-17). It is also fastest growing economy among G-20 today. We need a cadre of managers with a global mindset capable of adapting to, and operating in various cultures and contexts.

XIMR aims to produce such leaders through a unique curriculum that integrates Liberal Arts with Management education. Courses such as Comparative Philosophy, GEDA, Comparative religion, Sociology etc prepare students with a broad, General Management perspective of business, in addition to this specialization area as per University Curriculum. Further, the Institute inculcates the Jesuit values of character, competence and commitment, creating leaders who will serve their organizations, and society as a whole.

We invite you to visit our heritage, 147 year old, campus to get a first-hand experience.
